The Wellspring voted as the Co-op’s main charity partner
The primary purpose of the Supporters' Co-operative is, of course, to act as bridge between the fans and the club and to ensure that the voice of Stockport County supporters is heard where it matters. That’s not the end of the story though, and we put a great deal of time and effort into supporting local charities.
At the 2025 AGM, members of the County Supporters’ Co-operative voted to keep the Wellspring as our main charity partner for 2026. The Wellspring supports people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home in Stockport.
The first act as part of this renewed support was to assist with the bucket collection for the charity at Edgeley Park before the Stevenage game, where the Wellspring’s own volunteers were bolstered by Co-op members eager to help make the day a success.
This combined effort resulted in an incredible boost of £1,381.63 to the Christmas Dinner Appeal. Christmas is a particularly difficult time for many who are struggling and the money raised for the Christmas Dinner Appeal was used to provide a meal and a gift to bring some cheer to those who would otherwise have nothing.
A regular feature in the Wellspring’s calendar, and one the Co-op have helped with in the past, is the Rucksack Project. The idea behind this project is simple; it aims to provide essential items for as many people experiencing homelessness as possible during the winter months. Donations from the public and local institutions help make this a possibility and they have an instant, positive impact.
Should you be in any doubt about the need for the work done by the Wellspring, consider this: As you sit in your seat at Edgeley Park on a winter’s afternoon, looking forward to getting warm at home afterwards, imagine there was no warm home to go to, tonight or for the foreseeable future.
This is the reality for many who fall through society’s net in Stockport. Anyone from any background can find themselves without a home or be at risk of losing their home. The Wellspring provides support for anyone over the age of 18 who needs help in the borough of Stockport.
The lack of a home often isn’t the whole story. Homelessness is linked to challenges like abuse, addiction, debt, unemployment, and mental health. The Wellspring connects individuals to specialist support and empowers them with skills and guidance to build lasting independence. Homelessness is a complex issue linked to various social challenges. The Wellspring’s dedicated staff provide essential support in accessing and navigating social housing and securing stable living conditions. Their goal is to break the cycle of homelessness and ensure everyone in Stockport has a secure place to call home.
