Stockport County Supporters’ Co-operative Announces New Partnership with Stockport Credit Union to Promote Ethical Finance
The Stockport County Supporters' Co-operative is delighted to announce a new sponsorship partnership with Stockport Credit Union, bringing together two member-owned organisations that share a commitment to supporting local people and strengthening the Stockport community.
Credit unions provide a safe and secure alternative to high-cost lenders, helping members avoid payday lenders and illegal loan sharks. They offer straightforward financial services with no hidden fees, fair and transparent interest rates, and flexible repayment options designed to meet members’ needs rather than maximise profits.
Michelle Clegg, CEO of Stockport Credit Union, said: “This partnership brings together two organisations that share a commitment to serving their members and the wider Stockport community. Both organisations operate for the benefit of their members, are run on a not-for-profit basis, and are firmly rooted in the local community.”
Dave Marchbank, Chair of the Supporters’ Co-operative, said: “One obvious way our two organisations can work together is by helping supporters save towards their season tickets while borrowing any remaining balance. As prices continue to rise each year, putting aside a modest amount each month can make purchasing a season ticket for the 2027–28 season much more affordable.”
Over the coming weeks, the Supporters’ Co-operative will publish a series of short articles highlighting the range of products and services available through Stockport Credit Union and the benefits of becoming a member.
These include:
• A range of savings accounts, including Christmas Saver and Junior Saver accounts, designed to encourage regular saving.
• Affordable loans for members.
• Free Life Protection cover on eligible loans of up to £10,000*.
• Life Savings Protection of up to £10,000*.
Eligible savings with Stockport Credit Union are protected up to £120,000 through the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), giving members added peace of mind.
The Supporters’ Co-operative believes this partnership will strengthen the relationship between two member-owned organisations while providing practical financial benefits for Stockport County supporters and the wider community.
