Remembering members of the County family no longer with us

Dave Marchbank, Chair of the Supporters’ Co-op, attended the 27th Stockport County Memorial Day on Friday the 28th of August at the Royal Scot in Marple Bridge and presented a wreath from the Co-op.

This unique event honours the memory of all those associated with the club who are no longer with us, whether they be supporters, players, staff or officials. It was well attended, with around fifty fans and officials present for the start of proceedings.

The club were out in strength, the party including President Steve Bellis, Chief Executive Officer Gavin Bailey, Director of Football Damien Allen and others including former player Paul Jones.

It was as well that the day began indoors because there was a downpour of biblical proportions going on outside as Ian Lancashire got everyone to sign the book of remembrance. This was followed by the first toast to those who have passed away.
As it was now time for everyone to make their way up the hill to St. Mary’s Church, it was fortunate that the weather had relented and the rain had ceased.

On arrival, everyone gathered around the grave of Jon Hall, otherwise known as Captain Beefheart, a County fan of great renown. Steve Bellis led the formalities, honouring the memory of those no longer with us and calling upon Gavin Bailey and Damien Allen to lay the wreaths from the club and the Supporters Co-operative on the Captain’s grave.

The party then retraced their steps down the hill and back to the Royal Scot. Once everyone was back, Ian Lancashire summoned everyone present for the second and final toast of the day.
