As promised in our earlier report on the Guardian Account consultation process we are pleased to release the `Proposal Document’ in respect of the Guardian Account future focus. This can be downloaded from here: Guardian Account – Proposal.
Update (April 2018):
Following on from the consultation our Chair released the following statement on April 04 2018 reaffirming the Co-operative’s position:
“As most fans will be aware, the Guardian Account was set up by the Supporters’ Co-operative to help guarantee the long term sustainability of Stockport County Football Club by obtaining an asset that could be used by the club, and give the fans a stake in County. This is the basis on which we have sought to raise money and have now got £43,750 in the fund. Not a penny of this fund can be spent without the permission of the membership.
At the Co-op AGM, a vote was taken by our membership to make acquiring a stake in the ownership of Edgeley Park as the primary focus for the Guardian Account. The idea was to gain further equity stakes in our ground to help guarantee the security of tenure for the club at our spiritual home. By providing this focus we hoped to increase the rate at which we could attract contributions.
Whether this is possible or not will depend upon a number of factors, particularly the agreement of the Club and the Council, and how they view the proposal. It is clear that we need the agreement of club Directors to proceed with this and will continue in dialogue with them to clarify the position.
If for whatever reason we are unable to proceed with this plan, we will, in consultation with our membership, examine the possibility of acquiring a different asset, wholly or in partnership. (e.g. training facility.)
If there was ever (and let us pray there never will be) a doomsday scenario where Stockport County, the club we all have been sustaining, has ceased to exist the money in the account could be used to help set up a “phoenix” club. To be absolutely clear, as long as Stockport County exists, the supporters’ Cooperative will NEVER seek to establish, nor support the establishment of a rival club.
The Guardian Account has grown significantly since its inception and with your help can increase faster still. The Co-op regularly hold events and sell merchandise all of which goes towards the GA. Please consider making a regular donation. You can either donate directly via PayPal details for this can be found by following the link below. If you don’t wish to use PayPal you can make cheque donations by sending them to our secretary at 21 Hurst Street, Reddish, Stockport, Cheshire SK5 7BA. Alternatively, Co-op board members are in attendance at the cabin in the Cheadle End car park before every home game and are happy to accept cash donations.
The more we raise the more influence we will have and the more opportunities to create a sustainable future for the Club we all love. ”
