The Stockport County Supporters Cooperative, would like to extend to all our members and Stockport County supporters generally, best wishes for the year ahead along with thanks for the terrific support that we have received from you in 2017.
The Club faces tough challenges as we again try to gain promotion.
In this respect it is reassuring to note that the Club has and is backing Manager Jim Gannon’s meticulous planning that currently sees his talented team in striking distance of the play off places.
The Cooperative is 100% behind the Manager’s efforts!
We also look for further progress off the field of play. In our view it is essential for the Club board to build on their good work in reducing debt and achieving a small but welcome profit. We know that they are looking for further investment into the Club , and we wish them well in that respect .
For ourselves , whilst new investment would be welcome, we hope that such will not be at the expense of the long term future of Edgeley Park. The stadium is currently owned by the Stockport Council, and we are anxious to open discussions with them , and the Club, on a number of issues including the future of Edgeley Park.
The Stockport County Supporters Co-operative launched the Guardian Account in January 2015, with a view to providing an asset for Co-op members, on behalf of Stockport County Football Club. The Guardian Account, could be key in safeguarding the future of EP in the interests of the supporters, and now stands at over £42,000. Therefore , looking to establish a clear objective for the Guardian Account, thus enabling us to be able to effectively market this Account, we asked our members a simple question at the AGM in November namely – “Do you support making the acquisition of an equity stake in Edgeley Park being the ‘preferred option’ for the Guardian Account”?
The answer was a resounding vote in favour of that action, thus in 2018 we will be trying to let that vote guide us as we move to discuss matters with the Club and hopefully the Stockport Council.
There are other issues facing us as we head off into 2018, but those we have outlined above stand out as being important to resolve as we progress towards getting County back in the Football League.
