Stockport Express Article - 31 January
At long last it was good to see the shackles lifted even partially by
the Football League allowing us to bring in some new blood last week and
the hope is that this will allow us to improve a defence that is
currently by some way the worst in the league.
On the evidence of Saturday’s lack lustre performance at The Don Valley
stadium it is going to take a little time to settle them into a cohesive
unit.
The game was pretty much over after 33 minutes and we were tormented by
lady luck yet again with an own goal as well as by ex County players
with Adam Le Fondre being the pick of them with his 18th goal of the
season. He was particularly unlucky with a long range effort that found
the net only for play to be called back by the referee.
The 462 members of the travelling faithful again gave a good account of
themselves continuing to offer vocal support throughout the game but
there was little to cheer as although we pressed forward whenever
possible winning 9 corners we lacked the cutting edge up front and when
the chances came to Elding and Demontagnac we were thwarted by a
goalkeeper in form.
Hopefully the coming days will allow Wardy to get the new boys more
settled in and we will get some long overdue good fortune to help us get
that illusive first win of the year to set us on a run of good results.
Let’s hope that the revival starts with our game at home to Chesterfield
and that we can cheer the lads on to three points.
